The isotope group of HCMR co-organized with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the 2nd Research Coordination Meeting (RCM) of the IAEA F33027 “Isotopic Assessment of the Impacts of Climatic and Hydrological Changes on Wetland-groundwater Ecosystem Interactions” project that was hosted in Athens (Greece) in 16-19 October 2023. During the meeting, the group presented the progress of the Greek project and agreed to continue the collection of samples from the monitoring sites until April 2024 on a monthly basis to be analyzed for water isotopes (δ18O and δ2H of H2O) and selected hydrochemical parameters.
The meeting included a field trip to Schinias-Marathon wetland and hands-on training on instruments capable of measuring radon isotopes and noble gases in freshwaters. The group also agreed to be the first among the participants to apply these techniques in the study area using the instruments provided by the IAEA.
